PepsiCo Assigns Global Media Management to Publicis Groupe

PepsiCo has confirmed its decision to shift global media duties to Publicis Groupe, replacing the previous account manager, Omnicom. This strategic realignment supports PepsiCo’s goal of adapting to modern marketing landscapes, particularly by integrating media strategy, planning, activation, data, connected identity, and technology across various markets.

Publicis Groupe plans to implement a One PepsiCo global media operating model to enhance decision-making related to earned, paid, and owned media channels, targeting improved consumer impact and productivity. This represents a significant win for Publicis, which has seen a steady rise in new business, leveraging its expertise in artificial intelligence and data-driven marketing.

The transition comes as PepsiCo adjusts its portfolio, engaging in acquisitions such as Poppi and Siete, and encounters an increasing international demand for its products. In the second quarter, PepsiCo reported a 6.4% year-over-year net revenue increase, totaling $24.2 billion, surpassing market predictions. Despite facing inflation challenges in North America, the company plans to increase its marketing expenditures in the region during the second half of 2026.

While PepsiCo’s global media shift could impact Omnicom, which has managed the business for decades, Publicis’s success further underscores its enhanced capabilities. Recent wins include securing media responsibilities for Microsoft and deepening collaborations for AI advancements. Publicis’s net revenue showed a 4.8% organic growth in the second quarter, with performances improving globally except in the Middle East and Africa.

The media transition may lead Publicis to step back from its bid for Coca-Cola Company's global media business, although it recently secured Coke's North American media responsibilities from WPP. This withdrawal would mark a pivotal shift in agency-client alliances within the industry.
