OSF Launches Versatile 'Dirty Soda' Flavour Line for Manufacturers

OSF Flavors, a US-based flavour house, has unveiled a new line of 'dirty soda' flavour solutions. These new offerings are designed to help manufacturers engage with the rising trend of 'dirty sodas', which are sodas enhanced with flavoured syrups, creamy elements, and lime. The range includes flavours such as cherry cola, vanilla cola, and root beer float.

The 'dirty soda' concept is inspired by the traditional American soda fountain. OSF's flavour line is noted for its versatility, being 'highly deployable' in various applications including ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages, creamers, frozen dairy floats, and bakery fillings or frostings. This flexibility allows manufacturers in different sectors to use a single flavour system without needing to reformulate their products.

Pierre Battu, managing director of Asia for OSF Flavors, highlighted the complexities involved in formulating 'dirty soda' products. He stated, "It is a system: a base soda, a citrus or fruit lift, a dairy or dairy-free cream note, and a textural and visual payoff of layered colour and a swirling, ice cream float mouthfeel." He emphasized that replicating only the taste without the acid and carbonation balance could result in dairy curdling, and the absence of the visual appeal could diminish the drink's popularity on social media.

The new line from OSF aims to streamline formulations across different applications for manufacturers, addressing the increasing demand for products based on natural and organic ingredients as clean labels remain a priority. This trend is gaining traction beyond the United States, with UK-based flavour house I.T.S recently launching a line of 'creamy' natural flavours for carbonated beverages, including Pepsi's Cream Soda and Strawberries 'N' Cream.

OSF's latest launch is part of its ongoing work in flavour development tied to viral food trends. The company has previously introduced flavours such as Dubai chocolate, Angel Hair chocolate, and Miso Caramel Latte.
