HiteJinro Utilizes K-Pop Culture to Launch Limited-Edition Soju
On August 10, HiteJinro announced the release of a limited-edition label for its Jinro green grape soju, tapping into the global K-pop phenomenon. The product's packaging features Jinro's toad mascot styled as a K-pop idol, available in pink or green. Jung-ho Hwang, head of overseas business at HiteJinro, stated that this special edition aims to enhance the brand’s competitiveness and global presence by synergizing K-culture with Jinro’s iconic mascot.
To boost consumer engagement, the company launched an interactive 'Message Challenge' campaign. Each bottle cap from the limited edition soju contains a letter of the alphabet beneath it. This encourages consumers to collect multiple bottles, arranging the letters to form personalized messages that they can share on social media.
HiteJinro also appointed V, a member of the popular boy band BTS, as Jinro’s global ambassador in July. V's involvement is intended to strengthen Jinro's connection with international consumers by leveraging his widespread appeal.
According to Mintel, as Korean entertainment gains global traction, drinking practices from South Korea are increasingly being localized across different regions. This has led to innovations in soju formats, making them more accessible. The London Spirits Competition highlights soju's low alcohol content and versatility, which appeals to a broad range of modern drinkers.
Soju's rise in popularity in the United States is notable, with flavored and ready-to-drink variants contributing to its market growth. This trend positions soju as one of the fastest-growing categories, especially among younger consumers who favor fruity, ready-to-drink options. This spirit is often associated with social events like Korean barbecues or karaoke, enhancing its appeal as a fun and social beverage.
