GEA Launches KOB High-Pressure Homogenisers for Small to Medium Plants

GEA has revealed a new range of high-pressure homogenisers under the KOB series, targeting small and medium-sized production facilities. These homogenisers are capable of operating at pressures up to 400 bar and are designed to deliver industrial-grade performance at what is described as an attractive investment level.

Key Features and Design

The KOB series includes models 11, 22, 45, and 90, offering compact, hygienic, and flexible solutions. These models are suitable for a broad array of applications in the food and beverage industry, as well as in chemical and personal care manufacturing. The homogenisers boast an optimised mechanical construction that ensures lower noise levels and simplified access, coupled with efficient power usage.

Each model in the series is designed with a robust, high-pressure construction to maintain stable and efficient homogenisation, particularly for demanding applications that involve moderately viscous and abrasive materials. The use of higher-efficiency homogenising valve technology and options for wear-resistant materials are available to meet the varying needs of different applications.

Economical and Efficient Operations

The base configuration of these homogenisers employs competitively priced wear-resistant parts, making them an economical choice for processing standard, non-abrasive products. For more demanding formulations, optional high-wear-resistant materials can extend the service life of the equipment.

The series benefits from a compact architecture enabled by an optimised crankcase and gear-reducer design. This engineering approach aims to deliver high mechanical efficiency while minimising heat, noise, and vibration output. The drive compartment's design negates the need for oil cooling or forced-air ventilation, resulting in fewer auxiliary components and reduced installation, maintenance, energy, and utility demands.

Advanced Features for Enhanced Performance

The newly engineered frame and cladding of the KOB series contribute to reduced vibration and long-term durability. The integration of poppet-type pumping valves enhances flow characteristics and feeding stability, which reduces noise and cavitation and improves volumetric efficiency, ultimately extending component life.

All KOB models come equipped with CIP (Clean-In-Place) and SIP (Sterilize-In-Place) capabilities, and they can be configured to adhere to 3-A sanitary standards. Steamable full-stroke barrier chambers facilitate aseptic product handling, and the machines can be fitted with a second-stage pressure gauge and pressure transmitters for process automation and control.

This makes the KOB series suitable for processes involving milk, dairy ingredients, beverages, and plant-based formulations. The modular series supports various automation levels, from basic motor-starter solutions to comprehensive PLC/HMI control. Connectivity options allow seamless integration with SCADA and plant-wide automation systems, enabling processors to select the appropriate level of digitalisation for their operations.
