Fukuju Introduces Organic Sake with Sustainable Production Practices
Fukuju, a prominent sake producer, has released its Organic Junmai Daiginjo Yamada-Nishiki, aligning with Earth Day celebrations on April 22. This new product is certified organic and designed to be carbon neutral, reflecting a growing consumer preference for environmentally friendly and high-quality products.
Fukuju's president, Takenosuke Yasufuku, describes the sake as 'sustainable luxury,' highlighting a blend of environmental responsibility and superior quality aimed at high-end markets worldwide. The company has previously been recognized for its sustainable practices, winning a Green Award in 2020 for its water management initiatives.
The new sake utilizes renewable energy and city gas, whose carbon impact is offset, to achieve carbon neutrality in production. Moreover, it employs organic rice, a challenging feat given the complexities of organic farming in sake rice production.
The chosen rice variety, Yamada-Nishiki, is considered the 'king' of sake rice, particularly suited for Junmai Daiginjo, where the rice is highly polished. This organic rice is sourced from Hyogo prefecture and is 100% certified to the Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS) system.
Fukuju's focus on refinement is evident not only in the taste profile but in its minimalist packaging, reinforcing its image as a clean and responsible producer as sustainability gains importance in global markets.
