Elton John's Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Wine Gains Popularity in the UK
Elton John celebrated the launch of his non-alcoholic sparkling wine, Elton John Zero Blanc de Blancs, at London’s River Café. The event marked the drink’s status as the best-selling premium 0% sparkling wine in the UK. Initially introduced to the UK market in January through Sainsbury's at a price of £10, the product is now available at several major retailers including Tesco, Asda, Ocado, Booths, and Amazon.
Paul Schaafsma, Managing Director of Benchmark Drinks, highlighted that Elton John Zero has become the fastest selling 0% wine in Tesco’s spring range. The product will launch in the US in August and Australia in September, with positive feedback from consumers, particularly those aged 45 to 60, aligning with Elton John's fan base.
The River Café, owned by Ruth Rogers, was the first to serve the drink commercially after Elton John and his husband, David Furnish, presented it to her during a previous visit. The Café's Italian cuisine complements the wine, which is made from Italian grapes.
David Furnish explained that the wine is unique because it is not dealcoholised but made by fermenting grapes with good cultures, providing the qualities of a Blanc de Blancs without alcohol. Green tea is infused to add texture, and CO2 is gently added for fizz.
The launch event attracted various celebrities and industry figures, with a menu specially prepared to match the wine, featuring Italian dishes like risotto al pomodoro and lemon tart.
