Coca-Cola and PepsiCo: Diverging Strategies and Financial Performance in 2025
Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, two of the most iconic beverage companies, have adopted distinct strategies by 2025. Coca-Cola continues to focus exclusively on its beverage portfolio, including Sprite, Fanta, and its namesake cola. The company relies on a global network of bottling partners, such as Coca-Cola FEMSA and Swire Coca-Cola Limited, which together contributed nearly 44% to its total unit case volume in 2025.
In the fiscal year 2025, Coca-Cola's revenue reached approximately $48.1 billion, marking a 2.6% increase over the previous year. The company's net income increased significantly to about $13.1 billion from $10.6 billion in the prior fiscal year. Coca-Cola's debt-to-equity ratio was nearly 1.3x, and its free cash flow stood at approximately $5.3 billion.
On the other hand, PepsiCo has diversified its business by combining its beverage offerings with a substantial snacks division. The company operates in over 200 countries, with major markets including the United States, Mexico, and China. In 2025, PepsiCo's revenue was approximately $93.9 billion, reflecting a 2.3% year-over-year growth. However, its net income decreased to about $8.2 billion from $9.6 billion in the previous year. PepsiCo's debt-to-equity ratio was around 2.5x, and it reported a free cash flow of nearly $7.7 billion.
Both companies face distinct challenges. Coca-Cola is dealing with economic and geopolitical instability that affects global supply chains, competitive pressure in the retail sector, and regulatory issues such as plastic packaging and sugar taxes. PepsiCo, meanwhile, navigates changing consumer preferences, particularly regarding dietary trends and weight-loss medications, which could impact its snack business. The company also faces legal challenges, including antitrust litigation with Walmart, and must manage the volatility of raw material prices.
In terms of valuation, PepsiCo's stock is priced lower relative to its Forward P/E and P/S ratios compared to Coca-Cola. Specifically, PepsiCo's Forward P/E is 16.1x and its P/S ratio is 2.0x, whereas Coca-Cola's Forward P/E is 24.6x and its P/S ratio is 7.2x.
Despite their different approaches, both companies continue to be favored by investors for their reliable dividend payments, with PepsiCo offering a forward dividend yield of 4.24% and Coca-Cola at 2.62%.
