Stress-Relief Beverages See Significant Market Growth

Stress-relief drinks are among the fastest-growing categories within the functional beverage market. According to Innova Market Insights, these beverages are experiencing an annual growth rate of approximately 19%, which is comparable to the growth seen in brain health beverages and is closing in on the market share held by gut health drinks.

The increasing demand for stress-relief beverages is largely due to stress being identified as the top wellbeing concern worldwide. A survey by Innova Market Insights revealed that 43% of consumers consider stress a major issue, surpassing concerns about anxiety (36%) and sleep difficulties (32%).

Manufacturers are responding to this demand by incorporating functional ingredients known for their stress-relief properties, such as chaga mushroom extract and guarana. The number of new products featuring these ingredients is rising significantly, with launches including turkey tail mushroom increasing from two in 2023 to 13 in 2025.

Botanicals and adaptogens like ashwagandha, L-theanine, lemon balm, and chamomile continue to be popular choices among formulators due to their strong consumer recognition and associations with relaxation and mood support.

The functional beverage market is also seeing innovation in product formats. Brands are expanding beyond traditional offerings to include sparkling wellness beverages, functional waters, ready-to-drink teas, and wellness shots. This diversification is helping to introduce stress-relief beverages to mainstream markets beyond specialized wellness channels.

Consumer data indicates that 36% of individuals choose stress-relief drinks to relax, 33% seek stress relief, and 22% desire mood support. Additionally, 45% of these beverages are consumed at home, while 30% are enjoyed as a personal moment of relaxation, and 23% are consumed during work or study.

The regulatory environment is increasingly focusing on the need for scientific backing of health claims. As a result, brands are under pressure to demonstrate the effectiveness of their products, with transparency and ingredient quality becoming more critical than ever for consumer trust.
