Soft Drinks Market Sees Innovation with Flavorful Non-Alcoholic Launches

The soft drinks industry continues to evolve, with brands introducing a range of innovative flavors and beverages to cater to changing consumer preferences. This trend is exemplified by Carlsberg Britvic's recent product launches that aim to attract younger generations through unique flavor twists on traditional soft drinks.

According to David Laidler, brand director of carbonates at Carlsberg Britvic, traditional soft drinks remain popular, with cola and fruit-flavored carbonates making up 57% of sales in foodservice. However, there is a significant shift towards new and bold flavors, particularly among younger consumers who seek variety in their beverage choices.

Recent product launches include the Tango Zero’d range and limited-edition offerings like Tango Editions Thirst Trap, which combines peach, orange, and tropical pineapple flavors. The introduction of Pepsi Max flavors such as Tropical, Cherry, and Lime reflects the growing consumer appetite for diverse taste experiences.

Sunmagic Juices, known for its variety in fruit juices such as apple, orange, and tropical blends, emphasizes the importance of offering whole fruit juice drinks over those diluted or with added sweeteners. Andy Lewis, marketing controller at Sunmagic Juices, notes the importance of selecting scalable brands that meet consumer health expectations.

The focus on health is further supported by data from the British Soft Drinks Association, revealing that over 70% of purchased soft drinks are now low- or no-sugar options. This trend is highlighted by Richard Ellison of The Wholesale Group, who underscores the need for versatile products that cater to different meal occasions without complicating inventory management.

Meanwhile, indulgent options like shakes and smoothies remain a vital part of the soft drinks offering. Paul Jennings from Comelle highlights the potential of soft serve-led drinks and shakes to elevate the soft drinks category through offerings like their thick shake mix, which allows for creative customizations.

Flora Professional has responded to demand for indulgence with a dairy-free soft serve solution, allowing operators to cater to a broader customer base by removing allergens. Aenika Shah from Flora Professional UK notes that such offerings can capture additional consumer spending through delivery and takeaway channels.
