Several 1970s Soda Brands Are Considered for Possible Revival

During the 1970s, a myriad of soda brands emerged, capturing the tastes and imaginations of consumers before fading from store shelves. Brands like Coca-Cola's Tab, introduced in 1963, gained notoriety in the '70s despite concerns over its saccharine sweetener. While saccharine was later deemed safe, Tab's reputation suffered, leading to its discontinuation in 2020.

PepsiCo's Aspen, launched in 1978, offered a distinctive apple flavor and remained on the market until 1982. Its unique taste and marketing suggested a premium product, but it didn’t last. Rondo, a citrus soda by Cadbury-Schweppes launched in 1978, disappeared despite its light carbonation marketed as "The Thirst Crusher." Although it briefly reappeared as a limited edition in 2023, it remains absent today.

Other notable sodas included Barq's Grape, a fruit-flavored variant of the widely-known root beer, and Peppo, a competitor to Dr Pepper, which was eventually rebranded as Mr. Pibb. Pepsi's lemon-lime Teem, phased out in 1984, faced stiff competition from more successful counterparts like Sprite and 7UP.

Some soda enthusiasts and existing fan communities express nostalgia for these drinks. The potential revival of these brands, whether due to consumer demand or strategic marketing, offers an opportunity for companies to tap into retro flavors in a rapidly evolving beverage market.
