Resealable Cans Enter the California Beverage Market with Innovation
L.A. Libations has unveiled a new innovation in the beverage industry with its resealable, recyclable can, which was first showcased at The Beverage Forum. This new product is set to launch at Gelson’s Markets, offering consumers the ability to open and close the can up to 14 times without compromising the seal.
Unlike previous attempts in the market, L.A. Libations claims its design is fully recyclable and can be easily integrated into existing manufacturing models. The Re:Lid technology, developed by Re:Lid USA, utilizes a simple three-component design that fits standard beverage-grade aluminium cans, specifically those with a 202 or 206 diameter. This makes the product highly scalable across different beverage categories, including energy drinks, beer, and canned cocktails.
According to Annika Stepper, co-founder of L.A. Libations Water, the challenge with resealable cans has historically been related to manufacturing complexities. However, the Re:Lid solution addresses these issues, allowing for integration with high-speed production systems. The cans are suitable for cold-fill, low-carbonated beverages, maintaining the necessary pressure and seal integrity.
Currently, Re:Lid commands a premium price, but Stepper is confident that the enhanced consumer experience will justify the cost. She anticipates that as US production scales, the pricing will become more competitive with standard SOT ends. The compatibility of the product with existing infrastructure is expected to facilitate its adoption in the mass market.
