Oatly Introduces Fibre-Enriched Oat Milk in Europe
Oatly, a leading brand in the oat milk sector, has announced the launch of its new fibre-enhanced oat milk products across the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, France, Germany, and Austria. This expansion underscores the company's strategy to cater to nutritional needs, focusing on the role of fibre in consumer health. According to Oatly, the average daily fibre consumption in the UK falls significantly below the recommended intake, with only 4% of adults achieving the adequate level of 30 grams per day.
Kate Overy, a registered nutritionist and the nutrition science & communications lead at Oatly, emphasized that fibre naturally found in oats is a vital component of a balanced diet. She noted the company's decision to focus on high-fibre offerings as a response to consumer dietary gaps, rather than competing on protein content, which often dominates the market for plant-based drinks.
Oatly's new product lineup includes two key items: a Barista edition that maintains performance for coffee making, and a low-calorie version designed for everyday use without compromising on versatility. This initiative is part of a broader trend within the industry, where brands are increasingly spotlighting the health benefits of fibre over protein enhancements. Oatly’s campaign corresponds with a growing consumer movement, referred to as 'fibremaxxing', gaining traction on social media platforms and encouraging increased fibre consumption.
The product rollout is part of Oatly's commitment to improving overall dietary quality rather than focusing on isolated nutrients. The company believes that enhancing fibre content in their products aligns with their goal to offer healthier options to consumers and fill the fibre consumption gap noted in dietary studies.
Oatly’s fibre-focused range is not only a strategic business move but also highlights the growing recognition of dietary fibre's health benefits both in the UK and globally. Overy further suggested that the shift towards fibre-enriched products reflects an evolving market that acknowledges diverse nutritional needs beyond the mainstream emphasis on protein intake.
