Nichols and THG Nutrition Expand into Functional Beverage Market
Nichols has strengthened its collaboration with THG Nutrition, the owner of the Myprotein brand, by introducing the Myprotein Clear Whey Protein Water. This new ready-to-drink (RTD) product is scheduled for launch in September 2026 and is aimed at addressing the increasing consumer demand for healthier beverage options. Initially, the product will be available in two flavors: Vimto and Raspberry Lemon, with a suggested retail price of £2.99 per 500ml bottle. Each bottle is formulated to be sugar-free and low in calories while delivering 15g of clear whey protein, providing all essential amino acids in a refreshing format distinct from traditional milk-based protein drinks.
The partnership leverages Nichols' expertise in soft drinks and its extensive distribution network, while THG Nutrition brings its authority in sports nutrition and a track record of successfully branching into new formats. The UK functional drinks market reached £5.8 billion in 2026, growing by 10% year-on-year, with protein emerging as the top sought-after functional ingredient among consumers.
Since starting a flavor licensing agreement in 2021, Myprotein has expanded the Vimto flavor across various products, including creatine, collagen, pre-workout, and gummies. The Vimto Clear Whey product is now the leading clear whey SKU in the UK retail market, highlighting the strong consumer interest in this collaboration. The move into RTD formats allows Myprotein to reach consumers in chiller, impulse, and convenience channels, aligning with Nichols' distribution strengths.
Under a multi-year brand license agreement, Nichols will handle the manufacturing and distribution of the new range through its established UK network, providing retailers with an efficient entry into a rapidly growing category that is outpacing the wider soft drinks market.
The launch represents a significant evolution in the partnership between Nichols and THG Nutrition, transitioning from a flavor licensing deal to a co-developed RTD innovation platform. This move signals an intent to expand Myprotein's presence beyond traditional tubs, sachets, and supplements, while positioning Nichols as a credible player in the functional beverages segment.
Andrew Milne, CEO of Nichols, remarked that the launch is a response to a major consumer shift towards functional drinks, which he described as one of the most exciting growth areas in the soft drinks sector. Neil Mistry, CEO of THG Nutrition, emphasized the strategic expansion of the Myprotein brand into refreshing RTD products, reflecting their vision for the brand's future role in chiller and impulse channels.
