Laird Superfood Expands Functional Nutrition Offerings with Terrasoul Acquisition
Laird Superfood, a company specializing in superfoods and functional nutrition, has purchased Terrasoul Superfoods for $48 million. The acquisition, announced on April 24, 2026, is supported by private equity firm Nexus Capital Management, which increased its stake in Laird from 53.5% to 71.7% as part of the deal.
This acquisition follows Laird's earlier purchase of Navitas, another player in the health food sector, with assistance from Nexus. Laird, founded in 2015, is capitalizing on the rising demand for health-oriented food products, reflected in its $33 million market cap and $50 million in sales during the 2025 fiscal year.
Terrasoul Superfoods, known for its nuts, powders, and functional beverage mix-ins, reported $65.8 million in sales last year. Laird CEO Jason Vieth stated that the acquisition is a significant step towards building a leading platform in superfoods and functional nutrition, aligning with Laird's strategic priorities and enhancing its ability to serve consumers at scale.
The functional foods market, valued at $138 billion, grew by 4% in the year ending February 22, as noted by data from Spins. This sector includes products designed to bolster various aspects of health, such as mood, focus, beauty, and immunity.
Nexus Capital's principal, Kayla Dean Obia, expressed confidence in the functional nutrition category, viewing the acquisition as a reinforcement of their belief in the market's potential.
