Jersey Dairy's New Kefir Sells Out Rapidly After Launch

Jersey Dairy launched its kefir drink in early August, which sold out in less than two weeks due to higher than anticipated demand. In response, the company bottled a second batch that was double the volume of the first. The kefir is made from Jersey milk, which contains only A2 milk protein, and aimed to combine the brand's traditional flavors with the nutritional benefits of kefir and A2 protein.

Dr. Magdalena Drabble, Director of Operations at Jersey Dairy, spearheaded the development of the kefir, driven by her Polish roots and the rising consumer interest in health and wellness. The beverage has been crafted to have a milder flavor compared to some Polish varieties, aiming to appeal to the local palette in Jersey and Britain.

The kefir's production process, development, and testing were all conducted by Jersey Dairy, utilizing the same vessels used in cream production. The cultures and grains necessary for fermentation are sourced internationally. While initial investments were small, Drabble noted that any scaling up of production would require more substantial funding.

Future plans include the potential to increase production and even embark on export initiatives, should demand continue to grow. Current plans could see batches produced every three weeks, aligning with the drink's 35-day shelf life.

Further product development is also being considered in Jersey Dairy's yogurt range. The company is exploring promoting its yogurt as high-protein, leveraging the natural A2 protein content of Jersey milk, with ideas for a variant with more protein concentration also on the table.
