GEA Unveils GSE 150 CPR Separator to Support Citrus Juice Processors

GEA has introduced the GSE 150 CPR, a separator that enhances the clarification of pulp-rich citrus juices, targeting medium-capacity processors. This innovation is crucial for processors dealing with fluctuating solid loads due to variable raw material quality, such as those affected by citrus greening in Brazil, impacting 48% of the Citrus Belt according to Fundecitrus.

The GSE 150 CPR features a separating disc and a second centripetal pump in its self-cleaning bowl, allowing continuous pulp discharge under pressure, up to 4 bar. This technology stabilizes the clarification process even with high pulp content, enabling the machine to handle about 50% more product than conventional separators.

In terms of operation, the GSE 150 CPR requires only two to four solids discharges per hour, compared to up to 30 for traditional machines, reducing juice losses and improving process stability. An optional automatic pulp control system further optimizes pulp content management, with an advanced version adjusting discharge viscosity to minimize juice losses.

The separator can process up to 17,000 liters per hour for orange juice and 12,000 liters per hour for lemon juice, depending on product and solids content. Its components are made of stainless steel, with a hydraulically-operated bowl for solids discharge, driven by a 30-kilowatt motor.

Rüdiger Flocke, Area Sales Manager at GEA, emphasized that the GSE 150 CPR makes clarification processes more robust by continuously discharging pulp under pressure, reducing product losses significantly.
