Evertis México Increases Flexible Film Production Capacity with Coex Cast Line
Evertis has announced the expansion of its production capabilities at its manufacturing site in Pesquería, Nuevo León, Mexico, with the installation of an advanced Coex Cast film production line. Completed in August, this addition increases Evertis's annual manufacturing capacity to over 44,000 metric tonnes, with the new line contributing over 9,600 metric tonnes of ultra-thin flexible films.
The new production line features state-of-the-art technology, including a six-extruder setup capable of producing film structures with up to eight layers. This allows for customized barrier properties to be tailored to specific packaging needs. The company emphasized the new line's role in enabling downgauging, a process that reduces the material used per package while maintaining mechanical integrity, which is crucial for consumer-facing food and beverage packaging.
Manuel José Matos Gil, CEO of Evertis, stated the expansion is a strategic shift towards ultra-thin flexible films, responding to customer demands for high performance using less material. The Coex Cast technology is expected to strengthen Evertis's ability to serve the North American market, where there is a demand for packaging that is both efficient and reliable.
The initiative forms part of Evertis's broader circular economy strategy, which includes material reduction and increased usage of recycled content. The films developed with this new technology are designed to be compatible with existing PET recycling streams, supporting the sustainability goals of many brands.
Additionally, Evertis is investing in its manufacturing presence in North America with a new facility planned in Columbia, South Carolina. This upcoming site, with a planned investment of $100 million, is set to begin operations in 2028, further supporting the company's growth strategy in the region.
Founded in 1959, Evertis specializes in PET-based barrier films for varied applications, operating sites in Portugal, Brazil, Italy, and Mexico. The firm's ongoing focus is on improving recyclability, enhancing recycled content, and reducing the carbon footprint of its packaging solutions.
