Coca-Cola Plans $1 Billion IPO for Indian Bottling Unit
Coca-Cola Co is in the process of organizing an initial public offering (IPO) for Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB), its bottling unit in India, with the goal of raising about $1 billion. The beverage giant is targeting a valuation of roughly $10 billion for the domestic business. As part of this plan, Coca-Cola has hired Rothschild & Co to meet with potential investment banks in London to discuss their roles in the transaction.
The discussions concerning the IPO are still ongoing, and several key aspects, such as the timing, size, valuation, and structure of the public issue, remain subject to change. This move by Coca-Cola is part of a broader trend of multinational companies capitalizing on opportunities in India's capital markets, driven by strong investor demand.
Examples of similar market entries include LG Electronics, which listed its Indian unit, LG Electronics India, in 2025, and Hyundai Motor Co, which raised approximately $3.3 billion through the IPO of Hyundai Motor India in 2024.
Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, headquartered in Bengaluru, is one of the largest soft-drink bottlers in India, serving over 1.7 million retail outlets and employing more than 5,000 people. The company operates 14 manufacturing plants across 12 states and supplies products to 236 districts across the country.
In 2025, Coca-Cola sold a minority stake in HCCB to India's Jubilant Bhartia Group, as part of a strategy to gradually franchise its bottling operations across the market.
In related news, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to several beverage brands regarding their use of the term “energy drink” in packaging and marketing. The FSSAI highlighted that there is no official standard for “energy drinks,” and such claims are not allowed under current regulations.
