Capri Sun Enters Functional Beverage Market with New Hydrating Juice Pouch

Capri Sun, a well-known brand under Kraft Heinz, has introduced a new product line called Capri Sun Hydrate, marking its entry into the functional beverage sector. This new offering is specifically designed for children, featuring added electrolytes and vitamins, and contains 50% less sugar compared to mainstream sports drinks. The product does not contain artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.

Kraft Heinz, which manages the Capri Sun brand in the U.S. and Canada, highlighted that this launch is among the first electrolyte-enhanced drinks aimed at the younger demographic. The Capri Sun Hydrate range includes traditional flavors like Fruit Punch and Tropical Punch, alongside a new lemon-lime variant.

The introduction of this product aligns with Kraft Heinz’s broader strategy to innovate and cater to consumer needs for convenience, nutrition, and new consumption occasions. This move follows Capri Sun’s successful reintroduction of single-serve bottles, which expanded its presence in convenience channels and attracted a teenage audience.

According to Capri Sun, a significant portion of its consumer base, approximately 94%, also purchases sports drinks, providing a strong foundation for its expansion into the functional beverage category. This product launch occurs amidst a growing consumer trend towards drinks that offer functional benefits, such as improved hydration, mood management, and physical health enhancement.

In a similar vein, Gatorade recently announced its shift towards more hydration-focused products, moving away from artificial colors and increasing electrolyte content. This reflects a broader industry trend where hydration remains a top priority for consumers seeking functional beverages, as noted by Innova Market Insights.
