Asahi Group Sees Significant Decline in 2025 Net Profit Due to System Failure
Asahi Group Holdings Ltd., a leading Japanese beverage company, announced a substantial decline in its consolidated net profit for the year 2025. The net profit fell by 36.7% compared to the previous year, amounting to 121.5 billion yen. A significant factor contributing to this decline was a system failure that occurred in September of the previous year, which disrupted shipments.
The company's overall sales also experienced a downturn, slipping by 1.5% to 2,894.6 billion yen. According to President and Group CEO Atsushi Katsuki, the financial results were 'very severe,' and he expressed his apologies for the impact of the system failure during a press conference in Tokyo.
As a consequence of the incident, Atsushi Katsuki, along with three other executives, has decided to return 20% of their monthly salaries for a period of three months. The system failure's financial impact was estimated to be nearly 40 billion yen, but shipments for all goods had resumed by April of the following year.
This incident highlights the vulnerabilities that companies can face due to technological disruptions and the significant financial repercussions that can ensue.
