Amai Proteins Appoints Doug Brown as Chief Executive Officer
Amai Proteins has appointed Doug Brown as the new chief executive officer, effective from September 1, 2026. This strategic move is aimed at accelerating the commercial development of Sweelin, the company's lead sweet protein ingredient. Sweelin allows for up to a 70% reduction in sugar in various food and beverage products, maintaining taste and sustainability while addressing consumer and regulatory demands for lower sugar content.
Doug Brown joins Amai Proteins with extensive experience in the food, beverage, and dietary supplement industries across the United States and Europe. He previously held positions such as chief commercial officer at Sirio Pharma and Best Formulations, and led business development for Nutritional Lipids at DSM Nutritional Products in Switzerland. His career spans multinational corporations and scale-up companies, providing him with a deep understanding of commercial development and international market expansion.
Brown's appointment comes at a time when precision fermentation technologies are gaining momentum in food-tech, offering new ways to produce proteins and other ingredients. Amai Proteins is leveraging this technology to position Sweelin as a protein-based sugar alternative that does not require traditional sweetener blends or taste-masking technologies. The ingredient has been designed for stability and cost-effectiveness, with potential applications in beverages, confectionery, chewing gum, condiments, and dietary supplements.
Amai thanks outgoing CEO Dr. Amir Guttman for his leadership during a pivotal period of development and strategic refocusing. Dr. Guttman will continue to contribute to the company as an executive board member.
